Welcome to the inaugural edition of our new monthly publication, designed to give you up to date information in the fast changing world of overseas property. We have placed our ear firmly on the ground and will be bringing you the low down on what’s hot and what’s not! Using our extensive knowledge of the industry and talking to those in the know, we intend to give you a head start on the up and coming markets and investment hotspots. So keep your eyes peeled for our publication dropping into your inbox!

Dominican Republic

Cap Cana is one of the most stunning developments to grace the Caribbean. Covering more than 30,000 acres, when finished there will more than 5,000 residential units, five golf courses and a marina with over 1,000 boat slips. Situated on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, the resort will be the watch word of luxury and will set standards for many years to come.

It has just been announced that Mortgage IT, who are a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank, have made available $500m in residential mortgage funding to qualified buyers of Cap Cana.

This is definitely one development you would never tire of visiting.

Spain

Are you considering buying a property in Spain but confused by all the costs? Well property portal eyeonspain.com is shortly due to launch its Property Costs Calculator, this tool will prove invaluable to those considering a purchase on the country as it will calculate for you the total costs of your acquisition. It will be produced in conjunction with Spanish information firm The Rights Group, the toll will take into account the mortgage, tax and utility costs before generating the total costs involved.

So you do not need to be confused any longer!

Turkey

Many countries around the world have often “closed the stable door, after the horse has bolted” in terms of restrictions on property development. So it is refreshing to see that the Ministry of Forest and Agriculture in Turkey have issued a White Paper with guidelines and restrictions on construction to be implemented by municipals and town planners until 2025.

This has been put in place to restrict the intensity of construction on Turkey’s Aegean and Mediterranean coastlines which, until recently, had been left to the local officials to decide on.

There was a real risk before the White Paper, huge areas of Turkey could have been threatened but now there will be some control. This is a bonus because it will enable buyers to purchase homes knowing they will not be surrounded by high density or more importantly high-rise developments.

The legislation covers the whole of the country, not just the coastal regions, meaning the whole country will retain its charm and appeal. The government aim is for the country to retain its national, cultural and agricultural areas, such as forests, national parks and green belts.

So the future looks bright for Turkey.

Eye on the airlines

British Airways has responded to demand by opening a new route from April 08, from the UK to Antalya in Turkey. “Antalya, in south-west Turkey, is becoming an increasingly popular leisure destination”, said Robert Boyle, BA’s commercial director. Turkish news portal “Today’s Zaman” believes this will drive the region’s second-home market.

Also new for 2008, Easyjet have finally announced plans for several new routes from Manchester Airport. This will be the first time the airline has had aircraft based at the North West’s largest airport. The new routes will see flights to Tenerife, Cyprus, Crete, Innsbruck and Malta from April 08 and flights to Malaga from May 08.
